The free Atlas software is really for their brand of track. Most of the software is for a PC. The only Mac software I know about is RailModeller. I do most of my computer work, including this website, on a Mac. However, I still do track planning on a Windows 2000 equipped PC. How to build a model train layout from my 60 years of experience. We want it to be usable to as many people as possible, so we're building it in Java to run anywhere, and we're trying to make it independent of specific hardware systems. PC compatible with Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10. Mac compatible using Crossover v16+ or through emulators such as Parallels and VMWare Fusion. Two-button mouse recommended.

As seen in Richard Todd's article in Model Railroad Craftsman, Sept 2015, 3rd PlanIt now allows you to create detailed representations of rolling stock, locomotives and trackside structures that you can export to STL format for 3D printing.

The actual model shown here was finished and detailed by Richard Todd, another 3rd PlanIt user.
